Hi Urban Sanctuary Friends,
For your Sunday sabbath it is our hope that we can provide you with a time that inspires, centers and connects you to God and your friends at church.
We’ll be reading from Psalm 90 and singing some of our community favorites again this week. Bring your prayers to share and a heart open to God and each other. Deb St. Julien is planning a renewing Aftersession so check out her resources below if you’d like to prepare for that time.
Pastor Dana reflects on Psalm 90 – which reminds us that facing our mortality can actually cause us to value our lives more fully. In COVID -19 times we are reminded of the fragility of life and these words carry wisdom for these times
Time to Inhale led by Deb St. Julien I (Deb St. Julien) recently listened to a Brene Brown pod cast (link below) in which she quoted the Buddhist teacher, Joan Halifax, who was encouraging Brene to rest before their presentation that evening. “Tonight we will exhale and teach. Now it is time to inhale. There is the in breath and there is the out breath. And it is easy to believe we must exhale all the time, without ever inhaling. But the inhale is absolutely essential, if you want to continue to exhale.” So, my friends, I think this is the moment for the inhale, for grounding, for self-care and self-compassion.
What a stunningly stressful year. Come de-stress with some moving and sitting embodiment and self-compassion mediations/prayers. You are invited to a fun time of moving, shaking, dancing and sitting meditation next Sunday. All activities can be done sitting or standing. Of course, we will be ZOOMING, so no need to be embarrassed about other folks watching you.
If you want to read about some of the sitting exercises – the links are below. We will not do all of these.
