Jim Thompson’s Spiritual Poetry Class #24

October 14, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

I have so many incredible poems to share with you, I had trouble picking just 3 for today but here they are, two by poets new to me and one by an ancient favorite. More to come in the following weeks.

  • “We Are of a Tribe” by Alberto Rios. The “someday” he writes in the 2nd verse is a lovely aspiration so beautifully expressed.
  • “Pledge Allegiance” by Natalie Scenters-Zapico.” This is the sheer power of words: Tranquila.

You can hear the poet read her poem at https://dcs.megaphone.fm/POETS9304701778.mp3?key=a11d344f6d70d6e8e9d8734ace948da0 It’s worth listening to her commentary on the poem after she reads it: “Now the whole country is El Paso…”

  • “These spiritual window-shoppers” by the incomparable Rumi. I have a remarkable personal story about this poem that I will be happy to share on Wednesday.
